More funny money?

Have you seen the new £20 notes?  The paper versions can also continue to be used and the Bank of England will give plenty of notice before they’re taken out of circulation.

Come along to our fantastic weekly floristry course you will learn the art of floristry by the wonderful Lisa who’s creations are truly amazing.

Week by week you will follow a step by step guide to arrangements , bouquets , sprays , centre pieces and more.

The sessions will run every Sunday for 6 weeks starting 2nd April, 3-5pm(Easter Sunday will not run) the session is just £10 per session with refreshments available.

Digital Garage for small businesses

Digital Garage for small businesses

Digital capability is a big issue for small businesses in the UK. Barnet libraries is opening a free, pop-up service to help improve digital skills which will save time, increase turnover and cultivate customers. Using the Google Digital Garage online learning platform, individuals can choose from over 23 different topics ranging from creating a website to learning about Google Analytics.

Who this is for

Any person aged 19 or over who is the owner of, an employee of, or a likely future employee of a business.  This includes:

  • Sole traders
  • Home-based enterprises
  • Business owners or employees
  • People seeking to start their own business
  • Employees of charities
  • Students/young people building skills for employment

Why you should participate in this project

If you already run or work for a small business or want to start your own you can learn about

  • Building a website
  • Connecting with email
  • Search engine optimization
  • Web analytics
  • Marketing your business online
  • Social media
  • Expanding internationally
  • Building an online shop
  • Using video

and much more. Perhaps you’re a sole practitioner and would like to meet others in the same position.  Future plans include networking opportunities on a regular basis. The time commitment is minimal but the results will be rewarding!

What takes place

Using the Google Digital Garage platform, participants need to spend at least one hour engaged in learning and complete a minimum of 7 lessons.  An initial diagnostic session will help determine which lessons to take, although individuals can take as many lessons as they wish. This can be spread out over multiple sessions in a library or anywhere with a connection to the internet. Each lesson consists of of a short video and a review which take about 5 minutes. Tablets are available for use or participants may bring their own laptops or mobile devices.

When will sessions be held?

The initial project must be completed by the end of February 2017. Sessions are planned for Childs Hill libraryChipping Barnet library, Church End libraryGolders Green library and Mill Hill library as follows:

Participants can attend any of the sessions or arrange a 1 to 1 session if none of the above are convenient.

Where will this take place?

Sessions will take place throughout Barnet at libraries and other venues in the Borough. If you would like us to bring the Digital Garage to your venue please contact us.

Community Kitchen


Just to let you all know that there will be no Community Kitchen this week as we are very excited to be running the Employment Fair at the Rainbow Centre this Friday.

If you are in the job market – or even if you’re not –  come along anyway as there will be many opportunities to learn about jobs that are available, support with drawing up your CV and generally meet the people who may be able to help you find that perfect job.

Tuesdays at the Rainbow Centre.

DOLLIS DOLLS Nail Bar is run by the young ladies of Dollis Valley and charity Art Against Knives. Doors are open every Tuesday from 4-6.30pm to females of all ages from the local area. The project has been designed by local residents as a means of developing safe spaces to encourage interaction between young girls and women.

The weekly session delivers a bespoke training and mentoring programme to support females in learning new skills, maintaining commitment and meeting new people. Since it opened in October 2012 over 200 females have come through the doors! So why not come down and get your nails done for FREE, learn new creative skills, build on your confidence, gain access to local support services, or ask us for help in accessing education, employment and training.
