Please watch and share this short video featuring young Londoners talking about a capital free from poverty.
The video was launched 17th October 2019 by the 4 in 10 Network (which includes Rainbow Money Advice) at the London Child Poverty Summit.
What would a London free from poverty mean for you?
Congratulations to our wonderful Lunch Club co-ordinator Karen Hedges
A volunteer has been recognised as a hidden hero for helping feed hungry kids in school holidays.
Karen Hedges runs a Barnet-based lunch kitchen which has served over 5,000 meals to children during the school holidays.
The kitchen at the Rainbow centre on the Dollis Valley estate caters for up to 50 youngsters from low-income families and is part of a national charity Make Lunch.
And she was awarded hero honour by hotel industry charity Room to Reward and will now receive a free short break in a participating hotel.
Ms Hedges, 52, paid tribute to more than 40 volunteers who have helped make the Barnet Community Projects-backed venture a success over the last four years.
She said: “We run during the school holidays and as well as providing lunches we run activities and games, such as dance. I was really surprised to win this, it was really nice to be acknowledged and I accepted it on behalf of all the volunteers.”
Room to Reward’s charity director Adam Terpening commented: “Karen’s dedication to her community is outstanding and as such to be able to acknowledge this with a short respite break has been an honour.
